About Lisa Cohen

Lisa is a married mother of six children who lives in suburbia (actually in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan) and even volunteers for the PTA. Her journey to Ayurvedic health practitioner was motivated by her desire to raise healthy, balanced children by a mother that felt strong and happy too.

Originally, Lisa graduated from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law and worked for the Michigan Court of Appeals as a pre-hearing attorney. After having her first child and then another soon after, she did not feel she could be an attorney that would give it her all, deciding instead to pursue the art of motherhood full time. More children followed, but it was physically exhausting to keep up. The children also started to get ear infections and other childhood illnesses. Her pediatricians did not offer any guidance except for, “some children are just more prone than others.” Lisa’s internist just chalked up her exhaustion and digestive issues to having so many kids.

Lisa felt there had to be another explanation and a better way. Using the intellectual skills of her legal training, she began studying different alternative health methods. While many of the natural remedies seemed to help, there were some lingering issues. As Lisa probed further, she found a mind body connection to exist for health. Further, there is a unique path (Dosha) and inheritance for every individual and each individual needs different types of healing. There is no one size fits all. Ayurveda addressed the mind/body connection and had a variety of healing techniques. Wanting to learn more, she enrolled in New World Ayurveda (learning under Dr. Paul Dugliss M.D.) to become a health practitioner. She earned certification from the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) after graduating from the New World Ayurveda program.

Lisa believes learning is a process and a privilege, so she continues to advance her studies for more tools and holistic therapies. As her Ayurvedic counseling practice grew, Lisa saw people wanted to change and in most cases knew what needed to be done, but they would somehow get “stuck.” Lisa became a Health Coach who is trained in the successful scientific method of change and the best ways to offer support and structure.

On the holistic therapy front, Lisa has earned Level II Certification in Spiritual PhytoEssencing and is certified to teach Heart Based Meditation. She has also trained in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and the Emotion Code.

As her children are getting older and more self sufficient, Lisa wanted to share what she learned and perhaps, “even be blessed to nurture others.”
