About Diane Divyamani Finlayson

My name is Diane Finlayson. I can help you. Change is possible.

My journey with Yoga, Ayurveda and Meditation Arts began in 1975. These practices have been my catalysts, my “go to” tools for change, in body, mind and spirit. Yoga, Ayurveda and Meditation have helped me quit smoking, recover from grief & addiction and develop resilience in the face of trauma.
.
I come from a family of educators and healers. I believe it is my personal dharma (or life purpose) to share my experience, strength and hope with all those who are seeking their own way to recover. I began teaching Yoga in 1997, training Yoga teachers in 2000 and seeing Yoga Therapy clients in 2005. My journey now continues as Department Chair of Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda for the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH).

I hold a 1000 hour Yoga Therapy certification from Integrative Yoga Therapy and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University for my thesis on “Ayurveda in America”.

I am a member in good standing of:
International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) (and registered C-IAYT)
National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA),
Association of Ayurvedic Professionals in North America (AAPNA)
American Holistic Health Association (AHHA)
American Society of Hypnotists (ASH).

The Yoga Therapy I offer is deeply informed by energetics and uses restoratives and visualization/breathwork/meditation/ hypnotherapy as its primary tools rather than structural work. I believe we no longer understand how to be still and quiet which has created the current epidemic of conditions related to chronic stress response. My space is a container for client’s to learn to “stand down” from their daily battles.

This is an exciting time for Yoga Therapy. The International Association of Yoga Therapists has begun credentialing Yoga Therapists and accrediting Yoga Therapy programs. As one of the first certified Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT), it is my honor to serve as Department Chair for Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda at MUIH. Working with new Yoga Therapists and Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselors teaches me even more about the gifts of energetic healing and healing presence and how these take shape through breathwork, movement and visualization with meditation.

The yama yoga collective Yoga Teacher Trainings (200hr & 300hr YA registred) that I created are also deeply informed by energetics while maintaining a focus on structural function and safety. Mark Garner of yama yoga collective has put a fresh face on our YA approved 200 hr and 300 hr yoga teacher training curriculum and is the lead trainer in those programs. Additionally, Jana Long offers a 200hr training through Power of One Yoga.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you. You can change.
