Chow-chow Palya

Dosha benefits: Vata

Ingredients:

  • Chayote 5 cups
  • Coconut ½ cup
  • Green Chili 1
  • Curry leaves few
  • Mustard ½ tsp
  • Turmeric ½ tsp
  • Oil to taste
  • Salt to taste

Recipe:

  • Peal the chayote. Cut it into 2 and core the seed out. 
  • Chop into small pieces and keep aside.
  • Heat a little oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds. When it sputters, add turmeric.
  • Add the chopped chayote and give it a stir. Do not cover the pan. 
  • After 5 minutes, it will be almost cooked.
  • Pulse the coconut, green chili and curry leaves. Add it to the pan along with some salt.
  • Mix and cook for a few more minutes. The coconut will absorb any excess water. 
  • Serve with some rice.

Ayurveda Tip:

  • Chayote squash has protective effects on the heart, blood vessels and skin. It is also good for diabetics and could support weight loss.
